RFK during his campaign exit speech
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine advocate who had been running as an independent candidate, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed former President Donald Trump.
Kennedy’s Withdrawal
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who stirred up a lot of interest with his focus on environmental issues and vaccine skepticism, has dropped out of the presidential race. This move might surprise a lot of people, especially since his campaign was gaining real momentum and carving out a unique space in American politics.
In his announcement, Kennedy explained why he decided to suspend his presidential campaign and endorse Trump instead of Harris."Three great causes drove me to enter this race in the first place, primarily and these are the principal causes that persuaded me to leave the Democratic Party and run as an independent, and now to throw my support to President Trump. The causes were: free speech, the war in Ukraine, and the war on our children." Kennedy said. His endorsement of Trump represents a major shift in his political stance and goals.
RFK Jr. also described his decision as a deeply spiritual journey. He said, “Ultimately, the future, however it happens, is in God’s hands, in the hands of American voters, and in those of President Trump. If President Trump is elected and honors his word, the vast burden of chronic disease that now demoralizes and bankrupts the country will disappear. This is a spiritual journey for me.”
Family's Statement
Soon after, family members of RFK shared a statement through Kerry Kennedy’s X account: “We believe in Harris and Walz. Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story.”

What's Next
Now that RFK Jr. has dropped out of the race, a major third-party candidate is no longer in contention. This could significantly change the course of the election. RFK Jr.'s supporters will now need to decide which candidate to support next, and their choices may have an impact on how votes are distributed among the candidates.
It will be difficult to determine how RFK supporters will choose to vote now that the leader of the independent party has stepped down. Some polls show Harris leading, while others show Trump in the lead. RFK's endorsement could potentially persuade some supporters to vote for Trump and give him a clear path to the White House.
